ABOUT KP REKORDZ

Since being officially founded on January 6th 2007 underground Aussie hip hop label KP Rekordz have become just as well known for there controversial activities and artists as they have for there brand of raw street level music.

Amidst todays flood of recycled commercial hip hop KP Rekordz stand tall, flying a flag for original music with a unique sound that blends the classic hip hop vibe with fresh ideas.

KP Rekordz have toured nationally rocking stages at venues large and small

The KP Boys have toured and performed with international acts like – De La Soul (Waves nightclub new years eve 2007), The Outlawz (2Pac Still Breathin tour, Big Top Luna Park 2008), Kool Keith (national tour 2008), Tim Dog (national tour 2008) and Marc Live (national tour 2008).

Locally the KP lad’s have performed at venues around Oz sharing the bill with a lengthy list of the country’s finest hip hop acts including an appearance at Earthdance festival 2008, one of Australia’s biggest dance music festivals.

Since his release from Long Bay jail in 2005 KP Rekordz founder Big Dave has cemented himself as one of Australia’s most well known underground MC’s.

In recent years the big fella has built a solid following while making the transition from ex-crim and parolee to MC, label owner and community advocate.

Cheeky and straight to the point Big Dave draws on his life experience, his political views and the world around him dropping reality raps for street level hip hop heads.

There’s no compromise and no holding back when Big Dave rocks the mic and he runs KP Rekordz the same way backed by mentor John Payne who is the Senior Vice President of the legendry Death Row Records.

DOUG

A bullet an inch from his spine didn’t stop him.
A knife in the lung couldn’t stop him and neither could consecutive prison terms.

Aussie MC Doug is a fighter and he is here to leave his mark on the urban landscape.

Doug’s rhymes first caught Big Dave’s attention back in 2004 while the two served time in Goulburn jail, 4 years later Doug was signed on at KP Rekordz.

Doug brings to KP a brand of street soul that set’s him apart from the rest of Australia’s hip hop talent.

Lyrically Doug’s music represents the person he is.
An ex crim trying to turn his life around, a Koori man that holds a strong cultural identity.

He’s an MC that’s lived hard.
He’s an MC that rhymes hard.

GRANTWHO?

Grantwho? Started out as a DJ on the club scene until destiny led him on a full blown journey in to the world of music production.

After growing tired of playing other peoples music he decided it was time to create a sound of his own and so he traded the regular club nights for lengthy stints in the studio polishing up his craft.

Grantwho first popped up at KP as a supporting DJ for Big Dave at gigs throughout 2007 and in 2008 he officially signed on at the label as in house producer and DJ.

The Grantwho? Sound treads a fine line between the classic hip hop sound and other genres of electronic music.
He stays true to the original style of a hip hop beat while pushing the genres boundaries to it’s limits.

Nobody brings the beat back like Mr Grantwho?

COMMUNITY WORK

A big part of the KP Rekordz ethos is staying true to your roots and the boys at KP have never forgotten where they came from.
This is evident by looking at the community projects the label has organized and put in to action.

The infamous “Behind The Walls” project that made national headlines and caused debate in parliament after letters detailing human rights abuses were smuggled out of Supermax prison and forwarded to the United Nations.

“The Workshop program” a hip hop based course for troubled youth in the ACT run in conjunction with the Galilee School in Canberra.
